Respite Care for Colorado Families

Caring for a loved one is one of the most important things you can do — and one of the most exhausting. Colorado CareAssist provides trained, compassionate caregivers so you can step away, rest, and come back stronger.

Respite care for family caregivers in Colorado

Respite care is temporary relief for family caregivers, provided by a trained professional who steps in for hours, days, or weeks so the primary caregiver can rest, travel, or attend to personal needs. According to AARP, family caregivers provide an average of 24 hours of unpaid care per week, with more than a third providing 40 or more hours. Colorado CareAssist offers in-home respite care across the Front Range including Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo. Respite services include personal care assistance, companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders, and overnight supervision. In-home respite care in Colorado typically costs $28 to $38 per hour. Colorado Medicaid HCBS waivers and VA Aid and Attendance benefits may help cover respite care costs. Colorado CareAssist is locally owned and has served Colorado families since 2012, with all caregivers hired directly and background checked.

You Cannot Pour from an Empty Cup

Most family caregivers reach burnout quietly. It isn't a single breaking moment – it's the accumulation of canceled plans, disrupted sleep, skipped doctor appointments, and the relentless weight of being the only one. Research from the National Alliance for Caregiving shows that 23% of family caregivers describe their own health as fair or poor, and more than half report high levels of emotional stress. The families who thrive long-term are the ones who accept help before crisis forces them to. Respite care isn't giving up. It's how you stay in the role.

Colorado CareAssist has provided in-home respite care across the Front Range since 2012. Our caregivers are direct employees – not contractors – background checked, trained in personal care, and matched to your loved one's personality and routine. Whether you need four hours on a Tuesday or ten days while you travel, we schedule around your life, not ours.

When You Need Respite Care

Caregiver Burnout

When exhaustion becomes your baseline, the quality of care suffers for everyone involved. Regular scheduled respite – even a few hours a week – measurably reduces caregiver stress and prevents the crisis moments that force hasty decisions about long-term placement.

Planned Time Away

A vacation, a wedding out of state, a work trip – life doesn't pause because you have caregiving responsibilities. We provide full coverage while you're away, with consistent caregivers your loved one already knows and trusts.

Medical Appointments & Personal Needs

Family caregivers routinely defer their own health care. Respite care creates protected time for your own doctor visits, therapy, dental appointments, and the basic errands that pile up when someone else always comes first.

Emotional Recharge

Grief, loneliness, and emotional depletion are real consequences of sustained caregiving. Scheduled breaks restore perspective and allow you to return to the role with patience and presence – the things your loved one needs most.

What Our Respite Caregivers Provide

Personal Care Assistance

Bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting support provided with dignity and consistency. We follow your loved one's existing routine so nothing feels unfamiliar while you're away.

Companionship & Engagement

Meaningful time together – conversation, games, music, walks, or simply comfortable company. Our caregivers are trained to engage, not just supervise, and many clients look forward to their visits.

Meal Preparation

Home-cooked meals prepared according to dietary preferences and any medical requirements. We follow the same foods and preparation your loved one enjoys so meals feel familiar, not institutional.

Medication Reminders

Timely reminders for scheduled medications and documentation to keep the care record current. We do not administer medications, but we ensure nothing is missed during your absence.

Light Housekeeping

Dishes, laundry, tidying, and maintaining a safe living environment. Your loved one comes home to the same clean, organized space – and so do you when you return.

Overnight & Extended Coverage

Awake or sleep overnight caregivers available for multi-day or multi-week respite. We maintain the care schedule, monitor safety, and provide updates so you can travel without constant worry.

Flexible Scheduling – Built Around Your Life

A Few Hours

Minimum four-hour visits available any day of the week, including weekends and holidays. Use the time however you need – sleep, errands, exercise, or simply sitting somewhere quiet without being needed.

Full Day

Eight to twelve hour shifts that give you a genuine day off. Attend a family event, spend a day with friends, or take a day trip knowing your loved one is in capable, attentive hands from morning through evening.

Extended & Overnight

Multi-day or multi-week coverage for travel, surgery recovery, or planned transitions. We assign consistent caregivers for longer placements so your loved one builds comfort and routine, not anxiety.

Paying for Respite Care in Colorado

In-home respite care in Colorado typically ranges from $28 to $38 per hour depending on the level of care required. Several funding sources may reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs:

Colorado Medicaid HCBS Waivers

The Home and Community Based Services waivers – including the Elderly, Blind, and Disabled (EBD) waiver – cover in-home respite care for eligible Medicaid recipients. Eligibility is based on income, assets, and care needs. Contact your local Single Entry Point (SEP) agency to apply.

VA Aid & Attendance

Veterans and surviving spouses who qualify for VA Aid & Attendance benefits can use those funds for in-home respite care. Benefit amounts range from approximately $1,200 to $2,200 per month depending on veteran status. Colorado CareAssist works with VA-eligible families regularly.

PACE Program

Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in Colorado covers respite services for enrolled participants. PACE combines Medicare and Medicaid funding for comprehensive in-home and day center support. Ask us whether your loved one may qualify.

Private Pay

Families who pay privately have the most scheduling flexibility – no authorization delays, no hours caps, no program restrictions. We offer transparent hourly pricing with no enrollment fees, no long-term contracts, and no surprise charges.

I was running on empty after two years of caring for my mother full-time. Colorado CareAssist came in for two weeks while I visited my daughter, and for the first time in years I actually slept. When I came back I was a better caregiver — and my mother loved her caregiver. We now use them every month.

What Makes Colorado CareAssist Different

Not all respite care is the same. The difference between a stressful handoff and a genuinely restful break comes down to who you trust with your loved one. At Colorado CareAssist, every caregiver is a direct W-2 employee – never a contractor or gig worker. That means we run background checks, verify references, provide training, carry full insurance, and can replace a caregiver immediately if the fit isn't right. You are never left scrambling.

We also invest in the matching process. Before the first visit, a care coordinator meets with your family to understand your loved one's routine, personality, preferences, and any medical or behavioral considerations. The caregiver assigned to your family is chosen based on that profile – not whoever happens to be available. For extended or recurring respite, we prioritize consistency so your loved one sees the same familiar face, not a rotating roster of strangers.

Colorado CareAssist has been locally owned and operated in Colorado since 2012. We are not a franchise. The people answering your calls are the same people managing your schedule and responding when something changes. That accountability matters when you are trusting someone with your most important relationship.
