Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions Colorado families ask most about home care

Colorado CareAssist caregiver with client

How much does home care cost in Colorado?

Colorado CareAssist charges a flat hourly rate of $40 per hour in most Colorado counties and $43 per hour in Boulder County. That single rate covers everything — personal care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming; light housekeeping and laundry; meal preparation; medication reminders; transportation to appointments and errands; companionship; and even light handyman work and home safety modifications. There are no hidden fees, no service tiers, and no surcharges for specialized care such as dementia support or veteran care. The Genworth Cost of Care Survey consistently shows Colorado home care costs near or above the national median, making our transparent flat-rate structure a practical choice for families planning long-term care budgets. Boulder County pricing reflects the higher cost of living in that market. No long-term contract is required — hours can be adjusted week to week. Call (303) 757-1777 or (719) 428-3999 for a free consultation.

Do you require a long-term contract?

No. We do not require contracts. You can increase, decrease, or discontinue services at any time with reasonable notice — typically one week. Many families start with just a few hours per week and adjust from there.

What areas of Colorado do you serve?

We serve families across the Colorado Front Range, including Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Broomfield, Littleton, Lakewood, Highlands Ranch, and surrounding communities in Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Adams, Jefferson, Douglas, Arapahoe, El Paso, and Pueblo counties.

How quickly can care begin?

For standard situations, care typically begins within 3 to 5 business days. This allows time for an in-home assessment, care plan development, and proper caregiver matching. For urgent needs like hospital discharges, we can often begin care within 24 to 48 hours.

What background checks do your caregivers undergo?

Every caregiver passes a thorough screening process that includes Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background checks, Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) verification, drug testing, reference checks, and skills assessments. We re-screen periodically throughout employment.

Do your caregivers receive dementia care training?

Yes. Every Colorado CareAssist caregiver — not just some — completes comprehensive dementia care training. This includes understanding dementia stages, communication techniques, behavioral management, sundowning strategies, safety protocols, and family support. There is no extra charge for dementia care.

Can I choose or change my caregiver?

Absolutely. We carefully match caregivers based on your loved one's needs, personality, interests, and schedule. You meet and approve your caregiver before care begins. If the match is not right for any reason, we will find a new caregiver at no additional cost.

What is included in your services?

Colorado CareAssist's flat hourly rate covers a comprehensive range of services with no add-on charges. Personal care includes bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting assistance, and safe transfers. Home management covers light housekeeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, laundry, and kitchen cleanup. Caregivers prepare nutritious meals and accommodate dietary restrictions for conditions such as diabetes, cardiac recovery, and post-surgical diets. Medication reminders ensure prescriptions are taken on the correct schedule. Transportation services cover medical appointments, pharmacy runs, grocery shopping, and errands. Companionship and cognitive engagement activities support emotional well-being and reduce isolation. Light handyman work and home safety modifications — such as grab bar installation, removing trip hazards, and arranging furniture for safe mobility — are included at no extra charge. Pet care such as feeding and walking is also provided. Specialized care for dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and veterans does not cost more. One transparent hourly rate covers everything, with no contracts required.

Do you help with VA benefits for veterans?

Yes. Colorado CareAssist is an enrolled VA Community Care Network provider, which means we can bill the VA directly for authorized home care services rather than requiring veterans to pay out of pocket and seek reimbursement. Our team assists veterans and surviving spouses with multiple benefit programs at no extra charge. The VA Aid and Attendance pension benefit pays up to $2,424 per month for a single eligible veteran and $2,874 per month for a veteran with a dependent spouse in 2026. The Housebound benefit provides an additional monthly supplement for veterans confined to their home due to permanent disability. We also assist with the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers, which supports veteran caregivers with stipends and respite care, and Veteran Directed Care, which gives veterans more control over how their care budget is spent. Our coordinators help with eligibility verification, required documentation, and direct communication with VA case managers throughout Colorado.

Is there a minimum number of hours required?

We offer flexible scheduling to meet your family's needs. Whether you need a few hours of respite care each week or 24/7 live-in support, we work with you to design a schedule that fits. There are no rigid minimums that force you to pay for more care than you need.

How do I stay informed about my loved one's care?

Through our Digital Family Room portal. After every shift, your caregiver documents what was done, how your loved one is doing, and any observations. Family members can access care notes, shift summaries, and communicate with the care coordinator from any device, at any time.

What happens if my caregiver is sick or unavailable?

We maintain a team of qualified backup caregivers who are briefed on your loved one's care plan. If your regular caregiver is unavailable, we arrange reliable backup coverage and notify you in advance. Continuity of care is a priority — we do not leave families without support.

Is the initial consultation free?

Yes. The initial phone conversation and in-home assessment are completely complimentary, with no obligation. We use this time to understand your situation, evaluate care needs, assess the home environment, and discuss your goals. There is no pressure and no commitment until you approve a care plan.

Can you help with hospital discharge or post-surgery care?

Yes. We routinely coordinate with hospitals and rehabilitation facilities for discharge planning. Post-surgery care includes mobility assistance, medication reminders, wound care support, meal preparation, housekeeping, and transportation to follow-up appointments. We can often start within 24 to 48 hours of discharge.

What makes Colorado CareAssist different from other agencies?

We are family-owned and Colorado-based — not a franchise. One flat rate covers all services with no hidden fees or tiers. Every caregiver receives dementia training, not just specialists. We include handyman services that no other agency offers. We pay caregivers above market rate for better retention and consistency. And you get a dedicated care coordinator who knows your family by name.

Do you provide 24-hour or live-in care?

Yes. We offer both 24-hour care (with caregivers working in shifts around the clock) and extended-hour arrangements for families who need continuous support. Whether the need is temporary — such as post-surgery recovery — or ongoing, we design a schedule that ensures your loved one is never without support.
